My dvd drive is not recognised by windows 7

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and since installing w7 it does not recognise my dvd drive (however the light works on the side during start up and when i place a disk inside).
I believe I have downloaded EVERY driver on the Dell website.
windows updater does
not work as my pc now does not even recogise the dvd drive's existance.
I have followed/exhausted all Dell's and Windows online advise for this issue without success.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!
